4th Grade Students Proficient in Math

Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the percentage of fourth grade students who are proficient or above in mathematics.
This value refers to student scores on the Smarter Balanced Assessment portion of California's statewide student assessment system, CAASPP.

Why is this important?

Competence in mathematics is essential for functioning in everyday life, as well as for success in our increasingly technological workplace. Students who take higher level mathematics and science courses which require strong fundamental skills in mathematics are more likely to attend and to complete college.

Change in methodology for 2016:
Due to a change in methodology with the introduction of CAASPP as the new student assessment system in California, replacing the Standardized Testing and Reporting system (STAR), 2016 should be considered a baseline year for data analysis and is not directly comparable to previous years.
