Death Rate Among Persons with Diagnosed HIV Infection

This indicator shows the number of deaths among persons with a diagnosed HIV infection per 100,000 people with a diagnosed infection.

Why is this important?

HIV/AIDS is a significant cause of illness, disability, and death. Today, more people than ever before are living with HIV/AIDS, and are living longer because of better treatments. Also, more people become infected with HIV than die from the disease each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 50,000 people become infected with HIV each year in the United States. African Americans, men who have sex with men, and young people aged 13-24 are most disproportionately affected by HIV.
