May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mendocino County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Mental Health is proud to announce that we will be conducting our third annual May is Mental Health Month Outreach events.

Congress has recognized May is Mental Health Month since 1949, to raise awareness and recognition of the fact that one in five people are affected by mental illness. During the Month of May, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services brings resources and information regarding mental illness and substance abuse disorders, as well as, local treatment resources to Farmer's Markets and Health Fairs around the County. Several of the health fair events are local community events, showcasing local resources with fun educational opportunities.

As a part of these events Mendocino County is happy to invite Will Hall, for our second annual May is Mental Health Seminar. Will Hall, MA, DiplPW, is a mental health advocate, counselor, writer and teacher who discusses his own experiences with mental health issues, and the peer support movement from a perspective of empowerment and alternative mental health. The seminar will be conducted in Ukiah at the Board of Supervisors chambers May 23 from 1:30-4:30 and at the Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center May 24th from 9-12. See his website for more on his history: willhall.net.

In addition to the seminars, Mendocino County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services will be conducting a Latino Cultural Competence training at the Board of Supervisors chambers May 11 from 9-12.

Join us at one or all of these events to learn more about mental health, substance use disorders, treatment, wellness, obtain resources for behavioral health and recovery services, and grab materials to share with others that may be in need of support.
