Healthy Mendocino Becomes a Program of NCO!

We are pleased to announce that Healthy Mendocino is now officially a program of North Coast Opportunities, Inc (NCO). On June 24th, the NCO Board of Directors approved Healthy Mendocino as program beginning the new 20/21 fiscal year.

“We feel that HM has been a strong part of NCO for the last 7 years so adding them into our family of Programs was an easy fit. The provide much needed collaboration and sharing of information county wide for a cross sector of agencies and organizations,” said Patty Bruder, Executive Director of NCO.

Healthy Mendocino was founded in 2013 under the fiscal sponsorship of NCO. For seven years this fiscal sponsorship provided essential administrative support and services needed to reach its potential. This new integration into NCO’s family of programs will strengthen Healthy Mendocino’s outreach to the community and partners and will bring stability, longevity, and sustainability to the program.

Patrice Mascolo, Healthy Mendocino Program Manager, states: “I am excited to have Healthy Mendocino be an official Program of NCO. I know we will be stronger and seen as a valuable asset to the community together with the Community Action work that NCO provides.”

This change will not affect Healthy Mendocino’s role as a central hub for cross-sector collaboration. Healthy Mendocino will continue to provide streamlined access to health data updated in real time compiled from a range of state and federal sources, resources and best practices to inspire strategic action, and assist organizations in setting priorities.  We will remain a partnership of organizations catalyzing change by building relationships, sharing resources, and engaging the community by connecting people, ideas, and actions.

Healthy Mendocino will remain the lead for the collaborative Community Healthy Needs Assessment (CHNA) which is completed every 3 years. In 2016 – 2019, Healthy Mendocino implemented the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), a collaborative effort among citizens and organizations to improve health and the factors that influence it. Action Teams were formed in Ukiah and in the North Coast to work on Family Wellness and Childhood Obesity, Childhood Trauma, Mental Health, Housing, and Poverty. The next CHNA process will begin spring of 2021.

In partnership with other agencies and projects, Healthy Mendocino will be creating web pages on the Healthy Mendocino website to promote and share information. New pages as of September 1st are: Mask Up Mendocino, MOVE 2030: Mendocino Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy, and Mendocino Coast Healthcare Foundation.
