Cultivating Difference Makers: A Community Approach

Creating a Community of Safe and Resilient Relationships: A Public Forum

Monday, July 15, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Fort Bragg Town Hall, 363 North Main Street

In an effort to build a community of kindness, courage and connection, the Community Resilience Leadership (CRL) Initiative has invited Eric Barreras to Fort Bragg Town Hall on Monday, July 15th 6-8PM for a presentation titled “Cultivating Difference Makers: A Community Approach.” This forum will empower individuals to effectively prevent or interrupt sexual aggression and domestic violence, or any behaviors that fall on the continuum of harm. The forum aims to help attendees approach and understand the actions of bystanders, perpetrators and victims through a trauma-informed lens.

Mr. Barreras is former Sexual Assault Prevention Response Victim Advocate for the U.S. Air Force and founder and CEO of Difference Makers, LLC--a group of public speakers who are passionate about ending sexual harassment and assault in communities. Barreras is trained in the Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview method, a science and practice-based interviewing methodology informed by the latest research on the neurobiology of trauma and memory. Eric has worked in law enforcement, military, and professional sports settings to help build skills and understanding so agencies can effectively provide trauma-informed and compassionate response techniques.

The Community Resilience Leadership Initiative was launched in April 2019 and is a cross-sector effort to provide the Mendocino Coast residents and service providers the leadership skills necessary to build a community of kindness, safety and support. The CRL team facilitates workshops that teach resiliency and trauma-informed practices and works to build multidisciplinary alliances that implement resilience leadership skills. CRL offers opportunities to explore resources for responding to challenges and nurtures a strong social network of compassionate action to support the common good.

For such a small population, the Mendocino Coast has large pool of professionals, volunteers, educators, healers, and residents dedicating their time to helping others and creating a network to meet the needs of the community. Creating a common language around resilience is key to forging an alliance of community members that will work together to improve the well-being of all coastal residents.
